My primary area of magazine writing is luxury boating titles. I do freelance writing and editing for YachtingYachts International and Soundings, and freelance editing for Angler’s Journal. I’m a regular columnist for, and I own and edit (as well as handle its social media channels). I also do occasional advertorial work for print magazines and catalogs produced by luxury yachting companies worldwide.

In autumn 2012, following publication of my dog book Little Boy Blue, I started writing serious dog-related pieces for titles including The Boston Globe Magazine and The Bark. Following my 2016 book, The Dog Merchants, I expanded my writing on the topic of dogs to The Washington Post‘s Animalia section (examples include this story about an Ohio “puppy mill kingpin” and this story about a dog-shelter euthanasia study). I continue to write about dogs whenever I have the chance, and in whatever formats work for the subject matter, including personal essays like the one I wrote for the print edition of Family Circle.

My work on yachts and general luxury has appeared in Power & Motoryacht (where I was charter editor for five years), Charter Index (where I was founding editor and stayed for several years), Elite Traveler, Boat International USA, The Telegraph (U.K.), Sports Illustrated, Northeast Boating, Robb Report, Traveler Overseas, Motor Boating, Dockwalk, Cruising World, Stratos, Nuvo, Watermark, The Private Journey, Boot Exclusiv (Germany), Palm Beach Illustrated, International Yachtsman, Chesapeake Bay, The Affluent Page, Virtuoso LifeTransport & VIP Interiors, Boston Whaler Magazine, Burgess Yachts Magazine, Camper and Nicholsons’ Sea & I, Yachting Partners International catalogs, Yachtstore catalogs, Washington CEO, Forbes Life Executive Woman, Caviar Affair, New Canaan-Darien Magazine, Ocean House and Celebrated Living.
