This morning at the Miami International Boat Show, the professional group Boating Writers International announced the winners of its 2010 journalism contest. My website CharterWave earned second prize in the category for original online content.
Last year, CharterWave took first prize in the same category. I must say that if I have to move down a peg this year, at least it’s to make room for what I consider another great marine journalism website: Panbo, by my fellow Yachting magazine editor Ben Ellison.
Interestingly, while most of the winners in this category are people who have worked or continue to work for big-name publishers, most of the websites that earned recognition are produced by the writers on their own time, as individuals. Ellison and I both fit that description, as do my fellow BoaterMouth contributors Diane Byrne and Charles Doane, who were honored for their sites MegayachtNews and WaveTrain.
I am proud to be part of this stellar group of people who are putting new ideas into practice online. Congratulations to all the winners!
